MAY 2010 GRAYLING, MICHIGAN MICHIGAN 1000yd CHAMPIONSHIP A quick wrap up of our first Grayling match -- After a winter of work by Renzo Tormen, Bob Lorenz, and many others, our new targets went up for the first time. Although working well, we will be applying more weight, reinforcement, and other minor additions for upcoming matches. Hopefully, we are now well set for the future. We had a good May turnout. Jim Grissom had three Juniors on the firing line and has his eye on more among the newly appearing shooters. Bret Solomon and Bill Hammers were singled out by happy parents for the help they gave our first-time shooters. The weather cooperated nicely on Saturday. 60 degrees and windy was the order of the day. On Sunday, the weather was 70 degree and perfect. Of course, being Grayling, the wind continued to confound all with its irregular switchbacks and weirdly pointing flags. A team match was set for the end of Saturday. This purposely paired our high scoring people with Junior and less experienced shooters. The point was to pass on a lot of wind reading knowledge to the latter and beef up the knowledge within our Junior team. Most people seemed to enjoy it. Bob Steketee, Renzo, and Peter Church took first, second, and third place tournament honors. Bill Newman and Taylor Grissom took the honors in the Master and Expert classes. Our F-class shooters are also becoming more numerous. Bret Solomon took F-class with his F(o) rifle, closely followed by Bill Hammers. Bob Lorenz won Master class. Bret’s truck took honorable mention in the Best Rifle Hauler category. A special thanks goes to Ron Walters for running the line on Sunday. Hope to see everybody next month for our first Palma. Check our web site for details.
