Camp Grayling June 6 2009 We had a modest but highly motivated turnout for our Palma Field Championship, with 11 competitors shooting on Camp Grayling’s Range 10 on a beautiful, overcast Saturday. Although forecasts and the nearby Palma tryouts at Lodi may have frightened or lured away quite a few people, the weather gods were exceptionally good to us. Saturday was a great shooting day! Several people noticed there were several times during the day when nearly all of our flags were pointing in one direction! And several other times when the mirage agreed with the flags. The wind was, in other words, light, variable, and “Grayling tricky”. Sunday was, of course, a rainout!! Saturday we shot a Palma with a bonus 1000 yd irons match thrown in. The Aggregate winner was Peter Church followed closely by Eryk Grycza, a great young Ohio shooter. Renzo Tormen followed closely following. Ken Orris looked good enough in Master class to reinforce to our team at Camp Perry this year. Al Barnhart took the honors in F(o), followed by Jim Dietlein in F(tr). Thanks go our Friday stalwarts for setting up the range. Also to Peter Church who continues to improve our wind flag mounting arrangements. We hope to see everybody for the Michigan Highpower and F-Class Long Range Regional, 17-19 July. This year we will be providing a full medal set, not only for the conventional highpower “sling” people, but for F(o) and F(tr) as well.
