Youth and Women Activities Committee The Youth and Women Activities Committee is devoted to recruiting, training and competition for junior shooters, and developing programs to involve women in the shooting sports. Junior training camps are held throughout the state at various ranges to help local coaches develop junior shooters through state of the art training and coaching techniques. The committee co-ordinates postal matches for Juniors with club teams throughout the state. These postal matches are fired on the shooter’s home range and their scores are sent into the junior division. Using this method, competition programs prepare the junior for future shoulder-to- shoulder competition. The committee also co-ordinates and conducts shoulder-to-shoulder competitions throughout the state. These competitions further the shooter’s training. State junior championships are conducted in smallbore and air rifle in the NRA and USAS format. Annually we conduct State Junior Olympic Training Camps in cooperation with local clubs. Two shooters are selected to receive advanced training at the Olympic Training Camp in Colorado. The MRPA has been instrumental in developing shooters for collegiate competition. Shooters have received scholarships to leading colleges and universities offering shooting scholarships. Other shooters have entered the military and have shot on the military’s national shooting teams. Shooting develops not only the junior’s shooting skills, but prepares them mentally and physically for the modern world. Skills learned through the shooting sports are a valuable asset in today’s society.
